Neil Thompson Shade
President and Principal Consultant
Mr. Shade
is responsible for the overall managerial and technical
aspects of the firm’s projects. During the past 25 years,
Neil has consulted on over 800 projects including 140
auditoria, drama theaters, and lecture halls, 30 broadcast
and recording facilities, 15 music schools, and 150 worship
houses. He is personally involved in all projects providing
client liaison, acoustical measurements, criteria
development, calculations, and specification/drawing
preparation.
Neil has been an active educator
in acoustics since 1988. He is presently Director of the Acoustics Program at
the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University where he teaches theoretical
and applied courses in acoustics, computer modeling, acoustic measurements,
professional practices, noise control, and sound system design.
His book, Electronic Sound
System Design, resulted from a 1997 “Theodore John Schultz Grant for
Advancement in Acoustical Education”, sponsored by the Acoustical Society of
America.
Neil is a graduate of American
University receiving a B.S. in Acoustics and Audio Technology (1981) cum
laude studying under the noted acoustician Richard V. Waterhouse.
Professional society memberships include
Acoustical Society of America, Audio Engineering Society, Institute of
Acoustics, Institute of Noise Control Engineering, and National Council of
Acoustical Consultants.
Neil is frequently invited to make
presentations at acoustics, architectural, and liturgical conferences.
His interests include classical
music and visiting concert halls.
Lucky Tsaih
Acoustical Consultant Lucky has been with Acoustical
Design Collaborative, Ltd for five years and has experience in room acoustics,
HVAC system noise control, and computer modeling. She has consulted on over 100
projects for auditoria, educational facilities, museums, and worship houses and
has particular experience using the acoustic computer modeling programs EASE
(sound systems) and ODEON (room acoustics). Additional experience includes
performing acoustical measurements.
Lucky is a graduate of Peabody
Institute receiving a B.M. Music (1996) and an M.A. in Acoustics (2003) and is a
graduate of the Manhattan School of Music receiving an M.M. Music (1998).
She is also an experienced piano
technician and plays the trombone.
Her interests include traveling
and photography.
