Working
with St. Ann’s Roman Catholic
Church and organ maker Orgues Létourneau,
Acoustical Design Collaborative, Ltd
provided room acoustics measurement and
design to enhance nave reverberation prior
to installing a new 55 rank pipe organ.
Despite the appearances of a stone nave with
high vaulted ceilings, terrazzo floor, and
wood pews, the room reverberance was not
optimum for traditional liturgical music and
organ recitals. This was due to wall and
ceiling surfaces constructed from Guastavino
“Akustolith” tile, an acoustically
absorptive masonry product. The solution was
to clean the nave surfaces prior to applying
a sealant developed specifically to reduce
porous masonry sound absorption. Since the
new organ installation, the Church now
enjoys a regular program of organ recitals
boasting noted national and international
soloists. |
