Acoustical Design Collaborative, Ltd
provided room acoustics design for the
renovation of a 350-seat recital hall at
historic Temple Rodef Shalom. New balconies
were added to increase seating capacity
while improving visual intimacy. The
balconies provide “early” sound reflections
to the audience and enhance acoustical
clarity. Of particular concern to the
Synagogue building committee was retaining
existing Hebraic tapestries in the
renovation scheme. The tapestries were hung
on the rear wall between new sound diffusing
elements to provide a visual focus and an
acoustical function by reducing sound
reflections. The redesigned stage was
extended to accommodate a grand piano and
small chamber music groups. Interior and
exterior construction was selected to reduce
sound transmission into the recital hall.
The HVAC system was designed for low noise
levels to maximize musical dynamic range.
Levy Hall, which received a 2004 Faith
and Form Religious Architecture Award,
now serves an active chamber music program
sponsored by Temple Rodef Shalom and
community groups. |
