Acoustical Design Collaborative, Ltd
continues to provide acoustical measurements
and design for an on-going airport sound
insulation program initiated when the firm
principal was employed at Wyle Laboratories.
The program has involved sound isolation
design for over 300 residences and four
schools located within the BWI Airport DNL
65-75 noise zone. Residential sound
isolation design includes standardized
modifications for typical residences based
on house category or style and individual
designs for atypical residences. A low
frequency noise study, one of the first in
the country, was undertaken to develop sound
isolation modifications for residences
located near a departure runway. Routine
site inspections were performed at
residences to establish material and
construction compliance by installing
contractors. Field acoustical tests
completed on windows were part of
manufacturer quality control. The school
project modifications have included sound
isolation, HVAC system noise control,
classroom speech intelligibility studies,
and noise abatement for exterior-located
equipment. The BWI Airport Sound Insulation
Program has been on-going for nearly 20
years and is one of the most extensive in
the nation and has received overwhelming
community support. |
