Acoustical Design Collaborative, Ltd
provided room acoustics, sound isolation,
and HVAC noise control design for a new
restaurant and lounge at the International
Spy Museum. Of concern for the owner was
providing sufficient sound isolation from
adjacent interactive museum exhibit spaces.
The floor utilized a “floating” assembly
while double stud GWB partitions were used
at the room perimeter. Speech privacy in the
dining area was achieved with high-grade
acoustically absorptive ceiling tile,
carpet, and acoustical wall panels. The
dining booths have partitions extending to
the ceiling and acoustical glazing is used
at the windows facing the museum. The HVAC
system was designed to radiate moderate
noise levels as a means to supplement speech
privacy. The kitchen layout has noisy
activities distant from the dining area
while a vestibule reduces noise transmission
between the spaces. Zola’s Restaurant shows
that basic acoustical principles can enhance
the patron experience by providing a place
of quiet elegance. |
