Acoustical Design Collaborative, Ltd
provided room acoustics and sound isolation
design for a new 10,000 ft2
indoor “infotainment” and amusement center.
The facility is located on the ground floor
level of a new office building with tenants
above and to the sides. Room reverberation
and in-room noise was mitigated with thick
sound absorptive ceiling and wall panels.
The lobby and ticket areas received similar
acoustical treatment to reduce noise from
queuing patrons. Calculations indicated
amusement ride, amplified sound, and patron
activity noise would transmit into the
occupied spaces. A “floating” GWB ceiling,
double stud GWB partitions, corridor buffer
spaces, and vestibules were developed to
improve sound isolation. Vibration isolators
were used on the motion rides, pumps,
hydraulic lines, and loudspeakers to reduce
structureborne noise transmission into the
building. Exterior-located equipment
required an acoustical screen wall to reduce
property line noise emissions. The Time
Elevator provides another tourist attraction
to Baltimore’s revitalized historic Inner
Harbor district. |
