Acoustical Design Collaborative, Ltd provided
room acoustics, HVAC noise control, and sound isolation design for a new 100,000
ft2 law and business school building. The structure is based on a
series of floor plates open at the central core that extend two stories to
create high ceiling spaces for faculty and student interaction. The concave
ceilings above the alternate floor levels required acoustical treatment to
eliminate sound focusing effects. Instruction spaces include small seminar
rooms, 30-seat classrooms, and 60, 80, and 120-seat arena-style case study
rooms. The case study rooms created design challenges with the Architect’s
desire for visually discrete acoustical finishes. The GWB ceiling comprises a
series of inset acoustical panels with perimeter HVAC diffusers. Wall surfaces
include a mix of sound absorptive and reflective materials arranged as movable
panels to block daylight during video presentations. Sound isolation between the
adjacent case study rooms required double stud partitions due to elevated sound
levels from audio systems. The project provides a needed campus addition for interdisciplinary programs. William and June Warren Hall was featured in
Architectural Record magazine. |
