Acoustical Design Collaborative, Ltd provided room acoustics, sound isolation, and HVAC noise/vibration control design for a new 225,000 ft2 law school building. The building features a six story central atrium around which the majority of the educational spaces are arranged. Special acoustical glazing was necessary to reduce sound transmission from the atrium into these rooms. Educational spaces comprise moot courtrooms, 40, 60, and 100-seat lecture rooms, 300-seat auditorium, and seminar rooms. The school’s pedagogical style involves student interaction and the instructional spaces were designed to minimize reliance on electronic sound amplification. Support spaces include law library, student commons, interview rooms, and faculty offices all with sound isolating partitions. Mechanical equipment rooms in the penthouse above classrooms and lecture halls have concrete floating floors for sound isolation. Lawrence W. Inlow Hall provides a new centerpiece for this primarily urban campus.
