Acoustical Design Collaborative, Ltd provided
room acoustics, HVAC noise control, sound isolation, and audio/video systems
design for a new legal services suite for the U.S. Army. The main challenge for
the courtroom was providing good room acoustical conditions and low HVAC noise
levels in a space with limited structural slab height dimensions. Perforated
wood acoustical panels and acoustical plaster, specified for reverberation and
flutter echo control, compliment the Architect’s desire for a contemporary
aesthetic. A sound reflective ceiling in the “well” promotes speech
intelligibility while a sound absorptive ceiling in the gallery reduces public
activity noise. Sound isolating partitions using offset studs were designed to
maximize the net useable floor area. A discrete voice amplification system
provides natural speech reinforcement to the distant public gallery seating.
Coffers in the ceiling were designed to facilitate air duct distribution,
enhance sound diffusion, and hide sound reinforcement loudspeakers. The new
courtroom suite provides a contemporary space for the “new Army”. |
