Acoustical Design
Collaborative Ltd provided room acoustics,
HVAC noise control, and sound isolation
design for a new open-plan energy trading
floor and offices. The energy trading floor
is the largest in the southeastern United
States. A challenge was selecting a sound
absorptive ceiling for the trading floor area that
reduced activity sound levels while still providing
an acoustical environment conductive to speech
intelligibility. The design resulted in a
series of uniquely curved sound absorptive
ceiling “clouds” below an acoustical roof
deck. The angled exterior glass walls were
designed to direct reflected sound into the
sound absorptive ceiling that would
otherwise reflect to the opposite side of
the room. The project has been featured in
advertisements by Armstrong World
Industries, the company that supplied the
curved sound absorptive “clouds”. |
