Field Sound Transmission Loss

Acoustical standards require field sound transmission loss be graphically depicted as a function of frequency. The above graph is for a partition separating two offices. The black diamond curve shows the field transmission loss, the lavender square curve shows the effects of sound flanking around the partition, and the green triangle curve shows the standard sound transmission class (STC) contour. The test results indicate a 3 STC point reduction due to the sound flanking path, which was traced to the partition/floor junction not being sealed with acoustical caulking.
