Computer Modeling

Understanding, predicting, and controlling sound are the roles of the acoustician. To effectively carry out these tasks with assurance requires sophisticated computer analysis.

Acoustical Design Collaborative, Ltd regularly uses computer modeling during project design to assess potential solutions. Computerized analysis enables qualitative and quantitative acoustics to be determined more accurately and efficiently compared to hand calculations or scale model testing.

Speech and music recordings can be imported into some computer programs, and through a process called auralization, the acoustic characteristics can be audibly evaluated before the space is built. We have found this technique useful to demonstrate to clients design decision implications.

Some of our programs include: “CadnaA” (environmental noise), “EASE” (sound systems), “INSUL” (sound isolation), “LOUD” (loudness), “ODEON” (room acoustics), "BASTIAN" (sound transmission software) plus numerous in-house application-specific programs.
